
If trying to do only higher zoom levels you will be looking at significantly less area for the same amount of storage space (maybe 'only' the US at ZL17). But I use a lot of ZL15/16 in order to accomplish that. I have about 10 TB of ortho right now, I have finished the entire US, all of Western Europe, most of Australia, and all of South Africa. It can look really amazing! But, it can require lots of hard drive space.

(To search for all datarefs containing flightmodel and local with some text between them, you cannot just use flightmodel*local. Note that when you use * your pattern must match the entire dataref. If you search for sim/flightmodel*x you will find all of the datarefs beginning with sim/flightmodel and ending with x. You can also use wild-cards in the combo-box. Once the download finishes, you will normally see it at the bottom of your browser where can normally click the file to start the install. The popup menu for datarefs has been replaced by a combo-box. Click the button above will start a download of the RealSimGearX-PlaneInstaller.exe. (If you need a relative path, there is a “prefix” path that you can specify in the preferences that will be prepended before all textures.) The plugin is now back the way it used to be.
